The EU Breakfast Directives aim to ensure food safety, transparency, and consistency across EU member states by regulating the composition, labelling, presentation, and marketing of specific food items.

The European Commission's Directive (EU) 2024/1438, commonly known as the Breakfast Directives, aims to help consumers make healthier and more informed food choices by standardizing product information and ensuring consistent quality and safety standards across all EU countries. This directive also promotes fair competition within the internal market by ensuring uniformity of products, regardless of where they are produced or sold. EU Member States are required to implement these changes into their national laws by December 14, 2025, with the new regulations taking full effect by June 14, 2026.

The updated EU Honey Directive now requires labels to specify the exact countries where honey was harvested, replacing previous generic terms. Our Honey Authentication service uses NMR profiling to detect adulterations and unauthorized processing, ensuring that your honey meets all regulatory standards. In addition, our Honey Testing services deliver precise analytical results, backed by expert advice.

Our testing services for fruit juices ensure compliance by verifying ingredients, checking product names (e.g., juice vs. nectar), and meeting labelling requirements for differentiating 100% juice, concentrate, or blends. For jams, jellies, and marmalades, we assess fruit content, sugar levels, and additives to ensure adherence to EU standards for quality and authenticity. Our fruit and vegetable testing services help mitigate contamination risks, such as pesticide residues, heavy metals, and harmful organisms like Listeria and E. coli. Intertek’s food labelling services further ensure compliance with regulations across more than 50 countries, supported by our team of regulatory specialists.
