Seth Floyd, B.SC., Scientific Consultant, Toxicology & Dietary Intakes, Food & Nutrition

Seth Floyd is a manager within the Food & Nutrition Group at Intertek with experience offering scientific support on both food science and consumer product-related projects since 2016. He is involved in the project management and preparation of submissions and notifications for food ingredients to be reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Canada, and the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) including Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS), Novel Foods, and consumer product safety assessments (toxicological risk assessments). This necessitates the critical evaluation and interpretation of scientific literature on toxicology, carcinogenicity, genotoxicity, and metabolism of ingredients, impurities, or degradants present in food and consumer products.

Seth has played an integral role in conducting dietary exposure assessments of food chemicals, ingredients, and nutrients. In particular, he has been actively involved in the assessment of food enzymes in both the U.S. and the E.U. Seth has also been engaged in publication of studies in scientific peer-reviewed journals and has co-authored 3 publications to date.

Seth received his M.Sc. in Food Safety from Michigan State University. His thesis project included an investigation of potential health risks associated with long term consumption of plant-derived meat analogs. Prior to this, Seth received his B.Sc. (Honours) in Toxicology from the University of Guelph. His undergraduate senior research project included exploring potential functions of an alternate receptor for vitamin D, known as the membrane-associated rapid response steroid-binding (MARRS) receptor.
